Originally a castle, it was converted to a chateau in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, but then burned down in the year 1562.
The chateau was then restored by Petr Vok of the Rožemberk family.
Since 1622 the chateau has been under the ownership of the Schwarzenberks.
